1. Freshman B-backs Dedrick Mills and KirVonte Benson will not play in Saturday’s home opener against Mercer. The two were suspended by coach Paul Johnson for violation of team rules.
2. From A (Attaouchu, Jeremiah) to Y (Young, Louis), how all 26 former Tech players who were in NFL camps this preseason fared. (Spoiler: Demaryius Thomas made the Broncos roster. Speaking of which, he and former Tech defensive tackle Adam Gotsis will be in the season opener Thursday night against Carolina.)

3. A more in-depth look at the Tech passing game, which rescued the Jackets against Boston College, but, Johnson said, can still be better. “We missed a ton in the passing game,” he said. From Doug Roberson

4. The Jackets have practiced better this week, Johnson said, but what he’s not exactly sure what that means for Saturday.

5. Mercer coach Bobby Lamb shared his thoughts on Georgia Tech with local media. 3 notes of interest, as culled by Doug Roberson.

Let’s forget the 5 straight shutouts the Jackets had against the Bears, most notably the 105 to 0 eclipse, just after the start of hostilities in Europe in 1914. Want motivation? Consider the damage done to Tech at the inauguration of its football program in 1892. Taking the train to Macon over the recently restored rail line that Sherman’s cavalry had destroyed, the Jackets were beaten 12-6. (No idea where they played.) They did not recover from the disappointment and loss all their remaining games that season (both of them). If you go to the game, I won’t be there - my dog needs a bath, be sure to yell after each Tech score  “Remember 92".
